Join the Secunda is going green “Going Green Secunda” initiative

Going Green Secunda is an initiative started by a single mom who loves the environment.

Anything can be recycled to either be re-used or to be turned into energy.

Ms Kheya Samuels believes this with her whole heart and that is why she embarked on a waste collecting initiative called

“Going Green Secunda”.

This single mom of two pre-teens came to the conclusion last year that something drastically needed to be done to save Secunda from drowning in its own refuse.

She is asking residents to recycle their household waste by separating it into piles of plastic, glass, metal and paper respectively.

Ms Samuels and her partner in the venture, Mr Henry Smith, collect these once a week.

She and her two daughters, Rayne (14) and Megan, then separate the collected waste and take it to the recycling plant in eMbalenhle.

In this way Ms Samuels also earns a small income.
