Young Bethal children learn about rare diseases and enjoy fun day

Children enjoy face painting and coin collection at daycare centre.

BETHAL – Ms Lelanie van der Merwe hosted an awareness day about rare diseases on Wednesday, 28 February at Precious Little Ones Day Care Centre.

Ms Van der Merwe also raised money for the non-profit organisation, Rare Diseases South Africa, that helps people with rare diseases.

The children took part in a coin collection during which they spelled the word “rare” with coins. They also had their faces painted and drew their hands to understand the message that people can use their hands to help one another.

Ms Van der Merwe’s son, MC, was diagnosed with a rare disease called tuberous sclerosis last year.

Getting treatment for MC is difficult because little information is known about his disease.
