Tow-in service removes car in Secunda that was home to man for seven months
Man who lived in car is looking for a job and place to live.
SECUNDA – A car that has been standing in the parking area next to the Shell filligg station in Scheepers Street for seven months, was removed on Friday, 16 March.
Mr Dion McLeod lived in his car for six months after he could not get work for the shutdown at Sasol in September last year.
He came to Secunda from Durban to try to find a job at Sasol.
However he said he is blocked at Sasol for a criminal record from 1987.
Ms Ena van Rooyen, DA councillor, followed up with Govan Mbeki Municipality and the police numerous times after she received many complaints from business owners in the area, as well as residents about the man living in his car.
“It is municipal ground and the council was supposed to put signs up,” said Ms Van Rooyen.
She is trying to organise accommodation for Mr McLeod, but needs the community’s help.
Mr McLeod said he was going to spend the night on the streets on Friday night.
Although business owners complained about him using the surrounding area at the parking area as a toilet, they were concerned about where he would now live.
Messrs Wesley Brits and Lee-John Smith from JTR tow-in service removed the car.
It is not known where Mr McLeod is staying now.
