Trichardt people walk to make others aware of Lupus disease

Nine out of every 10 people diagnosed with Lupus are women.

TRICHARDT – Several people suffering with Lupus, and their families joined the Walk for Lupus at Terra Nova on Saturday morning, 17 March.

The 2km walk is the brainchild of KG Fit Gym’s owners, Mr Gawie Steyn and Ms Karen Gräbe.

Ms Gräbe is also a Lupus warrior who was diagnosed a few years ago. Despite the devastating affect that the disease has on the human body, Ms Gräbe is fighting back in the gym.

The gym’s slogan is her personal motto: “I’m not done yet!”

“Lupus is referred to as the big imitator, because it imitates the symptoms of other illnesses and is often misdiagnosed,” said Mr Steyn.

“I have seen what this disease does to Karen and her family. Nine out of every 10 people diagnosed with Lupus are women who are mainly between the ages of 18 and 44. We want our community to be aware of this disease,” he said.

The plan is to hold this walk annually.
