Cyclists compete in Lake Umuzi Cosmos 3-in-1 MTB Challenge

Young cyclists also take part in mountain bike challenge.

SECUNDA – Gawie Combrinck was the overall winner among the men in the Lake Umuzi Cosmos 3-in-1 MTB Challenge that was held last weekend.

Tanya Knight was the overall winner among the women and in the men’s 19-29 category, Hein Engelbrecht was the first cyclist to cross the finish line ,while Hendre Knoetze was second and Daniel Griesel third.

In the men’s 30-39 category, Jan Withaar was the winner, Jaco van Vuuren finished second and Gerrit Withaar third.

In the men’s 40-49 category, local cyclist Brand du Plessis finished first. Shaun Scott came second and Louis Meyer third.

In the men’s 50+ open category, Kobus van Zyl was the first man to cross the finish line, while Martin Meyer finished second and Andrew Rudolph third.

Among the women, Janika Smit finished first in the women’s 19-29 category. Trischa Buys finished second and Kay Naylor third.

Local cyclist Wilmarie du Plessis won the women’s 30-30 category. Daleen Joubert won the women’s 40-40 category and Girtie Steenkamp won the women’s 50+ open category.

Renaldo le Roux won the 3-in-1 boys 15-16 category, Waldu Bakker finished second and Juan Potgieter third.

Zegert Nieuwoudt won the boys 17-18 category and Adrian Prinsloo finished second.

Richard Swanepoel won the 68km open category for men, while Maree Verhoef finished second and Allen Mee third.

Andre Marais won the 68km race for men 50-50. Eric Mckechnie finished second and Frans Meyer came third.

Des Saltzmann won the 68km race for men 60+, while Gerhard Gouws finished second and Frikkie van Niekerk third.

Among the women, Beatrix Basson was the first cyclist to cross the finish line in the 68km race and Aletta Bothma finished second.

Jandre Stander was the first man in the open category to cross the finish line of the 33km, while Jean Greyling finished second and Elbert de Kock came third.

In the category for boys 13-14, Jooste Coetzee won, while Rohan le Roux finished second and NJ van Zyl came third.

Marika Knoetze won the open category for women in the 33km race, Anna Wood finished second and Elzaan van Heerden third.

Adri Prinsloo was the first woman in the 50-59 category to cross the finish line, while Lenie Porter finished second and Connie Jefferies came third.

Kayla Hodgman was the first girl in the category 13-14 to cross the finish line. Aneesa Hartman came second.

Robert Turley won the lap race category among the men and Adri Prinsloo won among the women.

Armand de Villiers was the first boy to cross the finish line in the fun ride. Francois van Tonder came second and Thinus Prinsloo third.

Abie van Zyl was the first girl in the fun ride in the 10 years and younger category. Jadalee Birge finished second and Nika Buckle third.

Anina Joubert won the 11-12 girls category and Zane de Klerk finished second.
