Tshegofatso (9) is taking sewing classes at the Gert Sibande College
Tshegofatso is learning how to sew at the tender age of nine.

LEANDRA – Tshegofatso Matsekoleng (9) is a learner at Learskool Leandra and is passionate about sewing.
She attends sewing classes at the Gert Sibande College and aspires to become a fashion designer.
Her biggest inspiration comes from her mother, Ms Phumzile Matsekoleng, who enjoys making curtains.
Tshegofatso’s love for sewing began at the age of seven when she asked her mother to buy her a small sewing machine.
“She pointed out a small sewing machine in the town and persisted that she needed it.
“Tshegofasto has on numerous occasions asked me to teach her how to sew, but I do not have the time due to work,” said Ms Matsekoleng
Ms Matsekoleng spoke to her husband about getting a tutor for her daughter and they decided to enrol her at the Gert Sibande College.
“I enjoy the lessons and learning and I have learned to iron the clothes that I have sewn.
She sews clothes for her dolls.
Tshegofatso plays netball at school to keep fit and socialise with her friends.
“She shares her sketches, new challenges and achievements with me when I return from work,” said Mr Richard Matsekoleng, Tshegofasto’s father.
“As parents we need to support our children to follow their dreams.”
Some of the students at the college complained about Tshegofatso’s age, but her teacher is delighted to have her in the class.
“I do not plan to stop going to the college. My friends do not know that I am taking sewing lessons, because I have kept it a secret.”
Tshegofatso’s other interests are acting and singing and she aspires to act in 7de Laan.
She also enjoys watching fashion shows on television and gets ideas from modern fashion trends.
