Henriëtte Brand trains Secunda businesswomen in the art of digital marketing

People use Facebook to be social, to interact and view their opinions, to relax and also to be informed, but not look for products on sale

SECUNDA – Ms Henriëtte Brand, a master in digital marketing, offered a whole new outlook on the use of social media platforms as a marketing tool on Thursday night, 19 April.

She was the speaker at the monthly event of the South African Council of Business Women’s Secunda branch. The event, Mastering Facebook like a Pro, was hosted at Secunda Panelbeaters’ workshop and was well attended by members and non members alike.

The women were encouraged to take along their laptops or tablets for a hands-on presentation. Ms Brand showed them step by step how to set up their business’ Facebook profiles according to their individual needs.

She explained that people use Facebook to be social, to interact and view their opinions, to relax and also to be informed.

“They do not go onto Facebook to buy things, so it is not wise to flood community group pages with display adverts,” explained Ms Brand.

She advised her audience to rather use Facebook as a platform to interact with potential clients by leading them to your website. “People go to Google to search for specific things and products. They are then in a buying mode.”

She also said it is imperative for a business owner to have a personal Facebook profile and a separate Facebook profile for the business.

“Be very careful of what you post on your personal profile as this will reflect on your business,” said Ms Brand.

The women who attended the gathering shared their eagerness to attend a follow-up workshop.

Ms Shimona Mariah, SACBW’s Secunda chairman, said the branch will organise this.

The Secunda branch of the South African Council of Business Women hosted an event to teach women more about digital marketing. Here are Ms Susan Genis (secretary), Ms Natalie Berning (treasurer), Ms Henriëtte Brand (an online specialist in digital marketing strategy, consultancy and training) and Ms Shimona Mariah (chairman).
