Water-less urinal systems introduced at Osizweni Primary School

Partnership between MEGCHEM and LiquidGold brings forth sanitation evolution with water-less urinal systems

eMBALENHLE – Megchem and LiquidGold unveiled waterless urinals at Osizweni Primary School recently.

The purpose of this project is to save water by using unique waterless technology.

The waterless urinal system reduces odours, improves hygiene and is 100 per cent waterless.

Urine drains from the bowl into the free-flowing valve, it enters the patented airtight seal, flows into the waste pipe and flushes away without the need for water, eradicating bad smells and limescale.

Mr Johannes Zondo, principal of Osizweni Primary School, thanked the companies.

“We hope more inspiring initiatives will be brought to the school and a school hall will be built,” he said.

The learners prepared a message of appreciation for the companies and entertained them with dances.

“Our nutrient recovery system helps save chemical waste disposal costs and creates revenue through the sale of high value recovered fertiliser, while recovering our carbon footprint,” said Mr Orion Herman, LiquidGold representative.

“The reuse of waste is the most exciting area for growth as the byproduct contains all the important nutrients that agriculture needs for healthy plant growth.

Ms Hanelie Milles, engineer principal group leader at Megchem, said: “We are committed to turning the challenges into solutions and we believe that the key to any project’s success is a close collaboration between us and our clients.”

After the ribbon cutting attendees were given the opportunity to have a look at the urinal system and a demonstration on how to use the system.

Formal training will be provided to help the learners to use the systems properly.

The opening of the project was attended by Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, and principals of various eMbalenhle primary schools.
