People spend day in kennels at SPCA

SPCA raises funds and creates awareness with kennel sitting day.

EVANDER – The Highveld Ridge SPCA hosted its first “Through their Eyes” kennel sitting day on Saturday, 21 April when people had to sit in the kennels for the whole day to feel what it feels like to be a dog.

The aim of the event was to raise money and create awareness.

Many people who did not want to sit in the kennels for the day, volunteered at the SPCA and helped to clean the kennels and spent time with the animals.

Only three people, Ms Marna Coertzen, Ms Heidi Potgieter and Nyoka Spies, a learner from Laerskool Goedehoop, spent their whole Saturday in the kennels with some of the dogs.

“I do not mind sitting here at all, it is for a good cause,” said Ms Potgieter.

Nyoka passed her time by playing with the two little dogs that she had to share a kennel with.

The kennel sitters had Wheetbix and coffee for breakfast.

Ms Chanae Elliott from the Highveld Ridge SPCA, thanked everyone who supported the day by donating money or food and also the volunteers and kennel sitters who took part in the event.

The SPCA is dependent on donations.
