Heavy mist linked to two crashes near Kinross

Motorists are urged to exercise extra caution when driving in misty conditions by reducing speed, increasing following distances and ensuring their headlights are on to improve visibility.

Emergency services responded to two separate accidents near Kinross on this morning (June 26), with heavy mist believed to have contributed to poor visibility on the roads.

The first crash was reported at about 3:33 on the R547, approximately 3km outside Kinross in the direction of Kriel. Two vehicles were involved.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the crash remains unknown.

The road was closed at the R547 intersection, also known as the 50/50 crossing, with traffic diverted onto the R580 towards Secunda.

The R547 was also closed from the Kinross side to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene.

Emergency services on scene included Jelane Fire Security, GTR/MCR, the GMM Fire Department and SAPS Kinross.

A second crash was reported at about 9:51 on the R546 next to the golf course in the direction of Kinross.

The collision involved a vehicle and a truck.


No injuries were reported, and the cause of the crash remains unknown.
