Lekwa FPA receives serviced firefighting equipment

Members of the Lekwa Fire Protection Association (LFPA) have received fully serviced firefighting equipment, ensuring they are prepared to respond quickly to fires during the burn season.

Fully serviced and ready for action, firefighting equipment was handed over to members of the Lekwa Fire Protection Association (Lekwa FPA) as part of the organisation’s annual maintenance programme ahead of the burn season.

The equipment undergoes a thorough inspection and service every year to ensure it is in optimal working condition when needed.

Members use the equipment to combat fires within the town, assist farmers during the burn season and respond to veld fires and other fire incidents across the area.

Lekwa FPA manager Frans Awie Vermaak reminded members that strict policies govern the use and safekeeping of the equipment.

“The equipment belongs to our organisation. Members must take good care of it and store it under a cover. Any nozzles or equipment damaged through negligence will be for the member’s account,” said Vermaak.

He added that members generally take excellent care of the equipment and that damaged gear is rarely returned.

“In some cases, farmers carry out the servicing themselves. Those members still bring the equipment in together with a list detailing the maintenance that has been completed,” said Vermaak.

Quantum Field Services carries out annual servicing to ensure every unit meets operational standards before the high-risk fire season begins.

Among the organisations equipped with firefighting units are Kasselman Security, AfriForum and the Lekwa Fire Department.

Designed for rapid deployment, the units can be fitted on a trailer or the back of a bakkie, allowing members to respond quickly to emergencies and provide support wherever fires break out.
