Secunda resident organises clean-up of the green strip area

SECUNDA – A resident orchestrated the cleaning up of river banks around several bridges in the green strip area between Claerhout and Irma Stern Streets and the neighbourhood of Park Street last week.

Ms Margaret Gilliland, a resident who took it upon herself to ensure that the walkways and bridges in the area around her house are clean, hired two men, Messrs Innocent Mahlangu and John Ngwenya to do the work last week. They worked the whole of Wednesday, 18 April, and eventually had a large heap of rubbish, reeds and garden waste that was dumped in the river to show for their effort.

“We needed to have this removed, but I encountered quite a lot of negativity by locals. Thankfully Ms Shimona Mariah and her team from Peter’s Dial a Bin offered to help,” said Ms Gilliland.

Ms Mariah’s team cleared the rubbish on Thursday, as well as additional rubbish that was added to the pile by passersby and other residents.

The crew from Peter’s Dial a Bin cleans up the heap.
