Hoërskool Oosterland hosts wheelchair race at Wieleskou on 1 June

Proceeds of wheelchair race will go for Bianca Fourie.

SECUNDA – Hoërskool Oosterland will again host their wheelchair race this year at the Wieleskou on Friday, 1 June.

The proceeds will be donated to Bianca Fourie (16), a Grade 9 learner from Oosterland who suffers from Scoliosis (severe spinal deformity) and urgently needs an operation to fix her spine.

Her spine is impairing her breathing and if Bianca does not get the operation as soon as possible, she can die.

Bianca is now permanently on oxygen and will need to spend at least two to three months in hospital in traction to straighten the vertebra column as much as possible before the operation.

Bianca needs about R700 000 for the operation and hospitalisation.

Teams who want to enter the wheelchair race, can consist of four people and the entry fee is a thousand rand per team.

According to Ms Liné de Vries, organiser of the race, it is all about awareness and fun.

A wheelchair was donated to a less-privileged child in a wheelchair after last year’s wheelchair race.
