Angel Khanyile delivers her maiden speech

The mother of three was quite adept in laughingly circumventing the question about any romantic involvement.

Ms Angel Khanyile, a member of parliament from the Democratic Alliance (DA), delivered her maiden speech in Cape Town on 8 May.

“I was a bit nervous, but it went very well,” Ms Khanyile said.

Colleagues congratulated her afterwards on social media and complimented her on a great speech.

She was sworn in as a MP on 11 December last year.

This activist joined the DA in 2014 and began with door-to-door campaigning and party recruitment.

She pointed out the difference between debating on council level and parliament where the latter involves the process of submitting a motion with notice and the scheduling thereof.

Mr John Steenhuisen, DA chief whip, impressed her with his ability of thinking on his feet and being on top of his game, as well as his availability when speeches have to be signed off.

“I am learning from most of my colleagues,” was the description of her political journey.”
