Provincial police commissioner warns that violence and destruction will not be tolerated
Lt Gen Zuma said more than 150 people have been arrested in connection with these incidents.
HIGHVELD – The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, warns the people of Mpumalanga that the destuction of property and infrastructure by the community during protest actions will no longer be tollerated.
He said in a press statement tonight, 26 June that the police strongly condemn these actions.
His statement concerns the current problems being experienced at eMbalenhle, where the community has gone on a rampage, wreaking havoc and causing massive destruction to property and infrastructure worth millions of rand.
“Among the destruction caused, is the burning of the post office, a filling station where an ATM was destroyed, a local mall where shops were first looted, as well as a truck and a sedan.”
Lt Gen Zuma said more than 150 people have been arrested in connection with these incidents.
“The police continue to monitor the situation with a view to regain control, but the situation is still very tense,” said Lt Gen Zuma.
He said this kind of callous behaviour should be condemned with the utmost contempt it deserves.
