Three bedroom house in Evander damaged in fire
The parts of the house that was not damaged by the flames, succumbed to smoke and water damages.
EVANDER – A fire destroyed a bedroom and caused major damage to the other rooms of a three-bedroom house in Evander on Thursday, 21 June.
Most of the roof trestles of the house in Alberta Street were destroyed.
The parts of the house that were not damaged by the flames, had smoke and water damages.
Four people living in the house were subletting from their employer.
Mr Johannes Ngxongo, who lives in the room that was destroyed, told the newspaper that he was working outside when he noticed smoke coming from the roof. He then saw the flames.
The Evander fire brigade arrived shortly before Mr Alf Byleveldt from Jelani Security.
They worked together to extinguish the fire before it could spread.
Mr Ngxongo’s coworker who occupied the adjacent room, was overcome with shock when he arrived on the scene.
He later asked to enter his room in an attempt to salvage his personal documents before they were damaged by the water from the fire truck.
According to Mr Johnny Schnepel of the sector police, the fire must have erupted at about 11.45am.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Langamed South Services were also on the scene.
