Mall@eMba open some shops
The mall was burned down by angry protesters on Monday 25 June.
eMBALENHLE – Some shops are now fully operational at the Mall@eMba after the violent service delivery protest that led to the torching of the mall in June.
Shops began operating from Thursday, 5 July.
Ms Khomotjo Mashaakgomo, marketing manager, said the other shops and banks are also expected to reopen soon.
“We will send communication regarding the rest of the development in due course.”
Many of the shops were damaged during the violent protest during which residents looted and then set the mall alight on Monday, 25 June.
Police have recovered some of the stolen items, such as groceries, furniture, building material and clothes.
More than 150 people were arrested in eMbalenhle and were charged with various crimes, such as theft, arson, possession of stolen property and malicious damaged to property.
