SECUNDA – A Roy Campbell Street resident is thankful for the quick response of StratconRisk.
The man’s bakkie was stolen at approximately 4am on 6 July from his yard and members of StratconRisk and W/O Oosie Oosthuizen found the bakkie at the Secunda Cemetery within half an hour.
The family was asleep when the woman woke up and saw on the security cameras that thieves were pushing the bakkie.
She alerted her husband and some of the family members got into another vehicle and drove in the direction of eMbalenhle where they thought the thieves had gone to.
The woman stayed at home and heard the bakkie’s engine start.
“They were very clever, we have two entrances and they used the other one,” said a family member.
“They did not start the bakkie until we were in our vehicle and began driving away. They pushed it out of the yard, using the other entrance and waited quietly in the road until we were gone.”
When the woman heard the engine start, she contacted StratconRisk who responded immediately and saw the bakkie at the Sasol filling station in Walter Sisulu Street.
They followed the bakkie to the cemetery in Secunda where the thieves drove with the bakkie into a bush and got out of the vehicle and ran away.
Because of thick fog, the team of StratconRisk could not see in which direction the thieves had run.
The bakkie was recovered and returned to its owners.
“If it had not been for StratconRisk and Oosie, we would not have gotten our vehicle back,” said a family member.
She thanked StratconRisk and W/O Oosthuizen for their quick response and hard work.
In another incident, a Nissan bakkie was stolen from a house in Eugene Marais Street in Secunda on the night of 7 July.
When the owners woke up on Sunday morning, they discovered that the gate was tampered with and their bakkie was gone.
They opened a case of theft at Secunda Police Station.
