The body of a newborn boy was found on the Secunda dumping site on Monday afternoon, 16 July.
Scavengers living on the landfill site made the gruesome discovery and alerted the police.
Mr André Momberg from ER24 Ambulance Service was asked to inspect and confirm if the information was legit.

“At first I could not see anything, but when the people on the rubbish dump pointed it out, I saw the child.”
Mr Momberg said the baby boy was fully developed and the size of a newborn. “He was wrapped in a blanket. I suspect the baby was dumped very early on Monday morning, although in this cold weather, one cannot say for certain how long the baby was exposed to the elements or when he died,” Mr Momberg said.

The police tended to the scene and an investigation is underway to find the child’s mother.
A post mortem will be performed to determine the cause of death. DNA tests are needed to determine the child’s race.
Capt Bettina Zondo from Secunda Police said the tiny body was found at about 3.30pm.
“It is alleged that a dumping truck came from eMbalenhle to offload waste. The people who live off recycling waste, opened the waste bags and found the body of a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket. Police were called to the scene.”
Capt Zondo asked that anyone with information contact the Secunda detectives at 017 624 2020.
The police are also still investigating the dumping of another older baby found on the dumping site in February last year.
