SECUNDA – An alleged traditional healer, her boyfriend and their two accomplices suspected of performing a forced abortion on her niece, are still in police custody.
Ms Lydia Mojemba (34), Messrs Seyikabi Wilson (46), Jingo Wassua (35) and Njombozi Katiti (43) appeared before Magistrate Faith Kekana in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court for a bail application on Monday, 30 July.
They were arrested three weeks ago and appeared in court for the first time on 23 July.
Ms Mojemba’s niece (20) who was eight months pregnant, was allegedly abducted from her home in Sunset Park, Secunda on 13 July and taken to Ogies where the aunt allegedly performs abortions.
The young woman was apparently locked in a room in Ogies where three abortion tablets were forced down her throat and more were vaginally inserted.
When the first attempt to kill and abort the baby did not work, more tablets were forced into her until the child was still born.
According to the police, the accused claimed they wrapped the baby in plastic and dumped him at a railway bridge in Ogies. A search for the tiny body yielded nothing.
The young woman did however manage to escape from the room and fled to the father of the baby in Secunda. They reported the crime to the police.
The couple claimed they have since the arrest been living in fear because they have been stalked and intimidated by people who know the aunt.
The four accused are still remanded in police custody for another appearance on 11 September.
