Lucky believes that disabled people are capable people
Lucky aims at overcoming stigma around people living with disability.
LEANDRA – Lucky Sikhosana is aiming at proving to the world that living with disability is not an obstacle to success.
He has been conducting several seminars, including a seminar in April for men and one for women July
He said his disability has taught him a lot about life and people and that he wants to share his experience with others.
As an aspiring entrepreneur and a community builder, Lucky believes in giving back to the community.
He recently handed over nearly a hundred sanitary towels to learners of his former school, Chief Ampie Mayisa High.
“I am a giving person by nature and I think generosity is the way to go to build strong societies.
“Another reason was that I do not want girls to miss school or exams when they are on their monthly cycles.”
The unsung hero hails from Leandra, he began schooling at Petros Maziya Primary School and he matriculated at Chief Ampie Mayisa High School.
He said studying in normal schools was the biggest challenge of his life as he could not catch up with the pace of the normal learners.
“But I took the bull by the horns, I did not have a choice, I had to learn and my family could not afford special schools.
“My teachers played a huge role as they kept motivating me to improve my grades.
“I had to put in more effort that the normal learners, I had extra classes and I would sleep late and wake up early to study.”
Right after matriculating Lucky enrolled at Gert Sibande College to study business management and while he was there he got a learnership to study a youth developer course.
He is currently studying business administration at Vaal University of Technology.
He is the dounder of the Sihlangene Information Youth Centre where the goal is to reach to more young people.
“I believe that so many people can do better in life if they can get motivation and stop seeing themselves as victims.
“I believe if we have a positive attitude, we achieve more in this life.
“I have always told myself that living with disability does not mean I am less human.
“It only means there are some things that I cannot do like normal people, but there are so many things that I can do which they cannot do.
“I want my life to be a testimony that through God all things are possible.”
Lucky is a devoted believer in Christ and is active in politics.
He draws his strength from the Bible and said the word of God has helped him to overcome various challenges in life.
He said he puts God first in all he does and he believes that God will help him to realise his dreams.
“I want to be a successful person and I do not want people’s pity.
“I want to inspire others, especially people living with disabilities.”
