Sasol investigates cause of gas leak

Residents heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion

A gas leak occurred at Sasol yesterday, 15 August at approximately 3pm.

Residents heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion.

According to Mr Alex Anderson, head of group media relations at Sasol, a large duct on a plant that helps prevent vapour emissons was damaged due to internal ignition.

Mr Anderson said emergency services were dispatched to contain the situation and no injuries were reported.

However one person was treated for shock at the internal medical centre.

“The community was not impacted,” said Mr Anderson.

“An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.

“Sasol remains committed to the safety and health of its employees, contractors, the community and environment.”
