TRICHARDT – A motorist who allegedly tried to bribe his way out of an arrest for possession of counterfeit goods, was immediately arrested on the N17 highway on Wednesday, 8 August.
According to Const Valencia Koma, spokesman for Trichardt Police Station, the flying squad members were stopping and searching vehicles near the Trichardt tollgate at about 9pm when they pulled off a white bakkie that was heavily loaded.
A search of the vehicle yielded 22 pairs of Nike and Puma tekkies and 17 large sealed boxes.
The police suspected the cargo to be counterfeit goods as the driver could not produce a receipt for the goods or explain where he was taking it.
“He instead produced money and asked the officer to let him go. The officers arrested him on the spot for possession of counterfeit goods and bribery,” said Const Koma.
The goods and money were confiscated.
The 27-year-old motorist was arrested and appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 10 August
