Adullam Christian Academy celebrates 20 years

EVANDER – Adullam Christian Academy is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The school was a natural addition to the Adullam Mission Station that opened between Evander and Brendan Village in 1994.
The school’s doors opened in 1998 after Rev Japie Malan and his team realised the huge need for a school at the mission station.
At the time the children of the mission workers on the farm commuted daily to the Trichardt Christian School.
There were many single mothers who seek help at the mission and their children needed schooling.
“The day of the official opening was apparently quite funny, because there were no children in the classes and the team had to go to collect them from all corners of the mission station,” said Ms Madelene Coetzee, principal.
She and her husband, Mr Leon Coetzee, have been part of Adullam for the past 15 years.
According to Ms Coetzee the Adullam Christian Academy yielded 18 graduates throughout the years. Some have become teachers, engineers, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist and doctors.
One of their graduates who is now a doctor, gave his former school the first fruits of his medical practice.
There are currently 69 learners from the play group to Grade 9 who are receiving education.
There is a hostel and several children are also in foster care at the mission.
Adullam Christian Academy was honoured for their 20 years of work with a trophy at an administrators’ seminar held at the Champagne Valley Resort.
