A police officer stationed at Balfour Police Station handed himself over to the police on 1 October after he allegedly hijacked a vehicle on the R23 on 30 September.
The officer stopped the vehicle that was on its way to Standerton from Thokoza in Johannesburg, just before the four-way hiking spot.
According to information, he demanded that the occupants of the car exit the vehicle, to which they reluctantly obliged.
The officer impersonated an inspection before driving away in the VW Polo Vivo.
The constable allegedly took a R5-rifle and the police van without permission.
