Thandeka is happy to be part of a new drama on SABC1

Local actor will be playing leading role in iKani, a new drama on SABC1

EVANDER – Thandeka Mdeliswa, a local actor, is part of the new drama that has been broadcast on SABC1, iKani from Sunday, 30 September at 7.30pm.

It is a family series mixed with mystery and fantasy.

It tells the story of Khanya Hlophe who is in search of her true identity and how she ultimately comes full circle.

iKani will be the first local drama series on the SABC and in isiNdebele.

Thandeka will be playing the role of Khanya Hlophe and she said it is a humbling and an exciting experience at the same time.

Thandeka comes from Evander and studied cosmetology. She left her job in the beauty industry to do photographic modelling while trying to find herself.

Acting was not part of her original career plan.

She joined an agency to try out photographic modelling and she was booked as an extra.

Thandeka fell in love with acting while she watched actors rehearsing.

“I enrolled at an acting academy and began attending auditions.

“This opened many doors and led to voice overs and playing leading and supporting roles in various drama such as Generations, The Legacy, Ngempela, Psycho and Kwanele, to name a few.

“I was also featured on the All Life television commercial including Muvhango’s title sequence.”

Thandeka is looking forward to the future in the acting industry.

“I feel nervous and excited, because many people will be watching. I am humbled and I feel honoured as I will be acting alongside a veteran like Florence Masebe who I grew up watching. It is a blessing.”
