Dog suffers broken leg for more than six months
The operation to amputate the leg is scheduled for the second last week in October, but this will cost about R3 000
SECUNDA – A Doberman Pincher who’s broken hind leg was never treated, will have to undergo an amputation.
It is suspected that the thee-year-old pooch was run over by a car about six months ago and because he did not receive any medical treatment, his right hind leg twists behind
his left hind leg when he walks. He currently moves on three legs.
Because Dog & Co, a local registered animal welfare organisation, met Gismo two weeks ago when a resident in Ext 22 spotted the maimed animal and phoned Ms Rochelle le Roux.
Gismo has been seen regularly roaming the streets of the neighbourhood, but ran away every time someone tried to catch him.
The animal was eventually caught and the owners identified. The animal was seized and taken away from them.
“We took him to our wonderful vet at Syrmia to see what can be done for this little guy.
“Unfortunately the leg needs to be amputated,” said Ms Le Roux.
His mouth also needs a thorough cleaning.
According to her, the pup was scared and thin when she took him in.
“He has scars on his head, ears and body from previous fights as he has always been roaming the streets.
“But he is such a sweet little boy and his personality is showing more and more every day,” said Ms Le Roux.
