eMBALENHLE – eMbalenhle is becoming dangerous for minor girls as incidents of rape involving victims under the age of 18, are increasing at an alarming rate.
Police said the rapid increase of sexual crime on children is a concern and urged parents to be more careful with their children.
Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said children are often raped by people known to them, such as uncles and neighbours.
She urged parents to be cautious and to always know the whereabouts of their daughters.
“We would like to encourage parents to ensure that if ever their kids are raped, they must open the case immediately.
“More often they take long to report such matters, maybe because sometimes the crime is committed by people close to them.”
She said police are working around the clock to ensure the safety of children at home and in school.
She said the police conduct various campaigns in schools to raise awareness about sexual abuse and harassment.
Const Mthethwa encouraged children to always report to their parents or teachers if they are abused.
