Future farmers graduate

SAYEC provides youth development services and also offers other life skills such as education, career development training, development of entrepreneurship, basic computer skills, national youth development programmes, job preparation training and creates awareness of substance abuse and crime prevention.

Altogether 21 up-and-coming farmers graduated at the Sakhile Youth Empowerment Centre (SAYEC) where a mentorship programme in agricultural courses were offered on 31 October.

The two-months-course began in September.

Among the courses presented were Crop and Animal Production (NQF level 2).

“The aim of the programme is to motivate young people to enter the agricultural sector that provides them with skills as well as information and opportunities,” Mr Thabo Sebiloane, centre manager, said.

He also made made mention of the programme’s stakeholders namely Lekwa CWP, Mocwiri Consultant, CoGTA, Department of Agriculture and Agriseta, who ensured that the training was conducted successfully.

“The centre will continue to provide them with mentorship, coaching and formation of cooperative/s to challenge the sector, moving forward,” he added.

The centre also works with numerous structures and departments that are promoting youth development in this country and abroad.
