Secunda residents take hands and fix pedestrian bridge on P185 road in Secunda

Councillor says the bridge was unsafe for pedestrians

SECUNDA – The DA’s Blue Wave and AfriForum took hands and repaired the pedestrian bridge on the P185 road between Evander and Secunda on Saturday, 2 March.

According to Ms Ena van Rooyen, DA councillor, five rails of this bridge were broken and stolen two months ago and left the bridge unsafe for learners and pedestrians.

“The four remaining loose rails caused a threat to passing vehicles and pedestrians,” said Ms Van Rooyen.

She thanked SSS and the members of the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF), Mr Jan du Plessis of AfriForum, Messrs Julius Piper, Quinton Smit, Jakkie Taljaardt,

Philip van Rooyen, Thabo Dhadla and Christiaan Slabbert for their help and support.

She said a stolen panel still needs to be erected and some bolts must be welded to prevent future theft.

“There is still a challenge to get the runway towards the bridge resurfaced and fixed for bicycle use over the bridge,” concluded Ms Van Rooyen.
