The man was later taken to Evander Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

eMBALENHLE – Angry residents of Extension 9 severely assaulted a 26-year-old man who was allegedly caught stealing in the area.

The man was later taken to Evander Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have condemned the incident‚ saying mob justice is not the right way of dealing with crime.

Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, gave a stern warning to the community saying that taking the law into your own hands is unlawful and will not be tolerated.

“The community must understand that while their support in the fight against crime is needed, the rule of law must be respected.

“Taking someone’s life is a criminal act that cannot be condoned, and will eventually get individuals into trouble with the law.”

She said police are investigating and no one has yet been arrested.
