eMBALENHLE – Asking for and giving lifts is becoming more dangerous in the area.
Police urged locals to avoid hitchhiking but to rather make use of public transport.
This came after a hitchhiker was robbed by suspects who gave him a lift on Friday, 8 March.
According to the police, the victim got a lift in Extension 18. The vehicle was filled with male occupants.
They allegedly searched him and took his money and cell phone.
In a separate incident, a motorist gave a lift to two men from Kinross to eMbalenhle.
It is alleged that at the drop point the men fired a shot towards the driver’s window.
They then forcefully removed the driver from his seat and drove off with the Nissan NP 200 bakkie.
The motorists sustained minor injuries.
No one has yet been arrested as the police are investigating.
