Athol Trollip warns against wasting votes on smaller parties
Mr Trollip said the ANC has not changed when Mr Ramaphosa took over as president. “You cannot expect a different outcome when you change only the bus driver, but still continue to travel the same route.”
SECUNDA – Mr Athol Trollip, federal chairman of the Democratic Alliance (DA), said on a visit to the Govan Mbeki municipal area on Friday, 26 March, that the DA is South Africa’s only hope.
He referred to the Zuma era as the nine wasted years and to the time that Mr David Mabuza, deputy president, was in power as the Mpumalanga premier, as the 10 wasted years.
“He has left a legacy of neglect in this province.”
“Anyone who tells you that things are improving, is a liar. “
Mr Trollip said the state capture was done by design of the ANC as it is part of their core policy to take over the leavers of state and to deploy cadres.
“Cyril Ramaphosa was the chairman of the ANC’s cadre deployment committee when Brian Molefe, who messed up Transnet, was sent to Eskom.
“Cyril Ramphosa was sent to sort out Eskom in 2014. He came back stating ‘ I have seen great things’.
“Five years later he is shocked about the state of Eskom. “
According to Mr Trollip, South Africans are becoming poorer by the day since Pres Ramaphosa promised economic growth of three per cent 18 months ago.
He said Mr Ramaphosa and the ANC often contradict themselves.
“Ramaphosa told the world the Reserve Bank will not be nationalised. Three days later the ANC says the Reserve Bank must be nationalised.
“Cyril said whites help to build the nation, and then Ace Magashule says they do not need white people.”
Mr Trollip said the ANC has not changed when Mr Ramaphosa took over as president.
“You cannot expect a different outcome when you change only the bus driver, but still continue to travel the same route.”
He said the DA will oppose amendments to the Constitution that includes the expropriation of land without compensation, the nationalisation of the Reserve Bank and the creation of a state owned bank.
“We believe all South Africans have the right to own their own property and its title deed.”
He went on to say that the practise of transactional sex is a curse just as bad as corruption.
“This happens in many areas, such as in the case of a Eastern Cape woman who wanted to hear what is happening with the delivery of her RDP house. The official told her to take her daughter to him for sex before she can get a house.”
Mr Trollip also touched on the need to stimulate the “platteland” economy, better border controls and lies that are being distributed online about the DA.
He said farmers should think carefully before voting for a small party, as they will be wasting their vote.
“Farm murders are out of control.
“Three of my family members have been victims of this crime.
“The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) has however not attended one single parliamentary agricultural subcommittee meeting in the past five years.
“Do you really believe they are there for the farmer?”
He said the DA is trying to build one South Africa for all South Africans.
“The ANC could hardly build any hospital in the many years they have been in power.
“The Western Cape led by the DA managed to build four hospitals within five years. The unemployment rate in the Western Cape is 19 per cent lower than in any other part of the country.”
Mr Trollip warned the audience about voting for parties on the fringes of the societal spectrum.
“The ANC, EFF and FF+ are among those parties that want to divide us.
“If we vote for the those on the fringes, our country will burn.”
