Municipality fail to give feedback on claim after accident

Bakkie written off after accident in Steenkamp Street in Secunda

SECUNDA – Mr Cyrus Bosch-Jones has been battling since December to get feedback from the Govan Mbeki Municipality after a municipal vehicle smashed into his bakkie.

Mr Bosch-Jones was waiting for oncoming traffic in Steenkamp Street near the police station on 14 December when the municipal bakkie allegedly failed to stop and smashed into his car.

According to a panel beater, it will cost more to repair the bakkie that he bought just three months before the accident, than to buy a new one.

He bought the bakkie for R36 000 and did not have insurance.

It is the family’s only means of transport.

Since the accident, Mr Bosch-Jones contacted the fleet manager numerous times by e-mail and telephone, but every time he is told they will follow up and get back to him.

“I just want the money for my bakkie or another one,” said Mr Bosch-Jones.

He heard from one of the people at the accident scene that it was the third accident that involved a municipal vehicle in two weeks.

The Ridge Times asked three people from the media department of the municipality for comment, Messrs Donald Green, Benzi Soko and Lucky Mhlongo, but none of them responded at the time of going to print.
