Toddler dies in eMzinoni shack fire

Police are calling on locals to help the family which lost everything to fire.

eMZINONI – A two-year-old boy died in a shack fire on Thursday, 16 May at Chris Hani Section.

According to the police, his mother had gone to the shop and left him with his three-year-old brother.

It is alleged that on her return from the shop, the mother was shocked to see her shack in flames and her three-year-old son crying outside.

It is alleged that the mother made attempts to save her child, however the flames were too big and uncontrollable.

Emergency personnel were summoned and on arrival, the boy was declared dead.

Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesperson, said the incident was sad and unfortunate.

She urged parents to be cautious with children around fire and never to leave toddlers unattended.

She conveyed condolences to the family and urged locals to help the family in any possible way.

“They lost everything in the fire. I am asking everyone to donate various items such as food, clothes and furniture.

“Any form of assistance will be of great help.

“The family is in a serious need.

“The mother has four children who also lost everything in the fire.”
