Organisations host spayathon at Trichardtsfontein Dam

Their planning and hard work paid off because 40 animals, which included dogs, cats and rabbits, were spayed and neutered, preventing them from contributing to the overpopulation of these pets

TRICHARDT – Feral Watch TNR 206-250 NPO and Because Dogs & Co. hosted a Spayathon at the Trichardtsfontein Dam on Wednesday, 4 September.

Their planning and hard work paid off because 40 animals, which included dogs, cats and rabbits, were spayed and neutered, preventing them from contributing to the overpopulation of these pets.

The eight-member veterinarian team and five vet nurses were led by Dr Francoisné Nortjé.

The nurses prepared the animals for the surgical procedure and volunteers took care of the patients while they were still recovering.

Ms Nicolette van Zyl from Feral Watch, said the dogs even received manicures after their procedures.

Kosmos-Secunda Pharmacy Group provided at cost price the consumables needed for the Spayathon.

Trichardtsfontein Dam provided the venue.

According to Ms Van Zyl, another Spayathon is already in the planning phase.
