District mayor meets with religious leaders in the Gert Sibande region

“We need your wisdom and leadership in advancing the lives of the people.”

SECUNDA – Mr Muzi Chirwa, the executive mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality, held a meeting with the religious leaders from the Govan Mbeki Municipality on Thursday, 12 September at the Lilian Ngoyi Centre.

The meeting was aimed at enhancing and strengthening the working relationship with the religious sector.

Mr Chirwa said the religious sector is one of the most important stakeholders and that it is time that they are given the respect and the opportunity to play their role in society.

He wants the religious sector to assist in reviving the Moral Regeneration Programme so that the issue of gender-based violence and other social ills can be dealt with.

He introduced the Gert Sibande District Municipality led Joint Intervention Initiative aimed at revitalising service delivery in all the municipalities in the district.

“I am here to let you know that we need you as religious leaders to address some of the issues in the district.

“We need your wisdom and leadership in advancing the lives of the people.

“Above all, we need prayers so that we can lead the society with dignity and divine wisdom.”

He called the pastors to unite and take their rightful position in society.

The religious leaders urged the municipality to organise a summit, because there are issues that needs to be addressed.

Mr Nhlanipho Zuma, speaker, said the office is always open to assist all stakeholders.

Mr Chirwa called on the religious leaders to submit their church details and personal particulars from Monday, 23 September.

He said forms will be made available in all municipal offices in the area.

Mr Chirwa said the summit will be held in October.
