BREAKING NEWS: Rand Water intends to throttle water pressure by 40%

Rand Water said in its statement that GMM owes the institution more than R 179,5-million.

HIGHVELD – The Govan Mbeki Municipality has only until Tuesday, 1 October, to come up with almost R180-million or Rand Water will throttle the pressure of the water supply by another 20 per cent.

It is currently pumping water at 80 per cent to Govan Mbeki Municipality. Come Tuesday, the water pressure will only be 60 per cent if the municipality does not cough up.

Rand Water announced its intention to implement these credit control measures, because GMM failed to honour signed agreements to settle their outstanding amount.

Mr Justice Mohale, media relations manager at Rand Water, said these measures will hopefully compel GMM to meet their obligations to settle amounts due for water services rendered.

The Provincial Departments of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga has been informed of Rand Water’s intended action.
