Support new primary school in Secunda

SECUNDA – Trichardtsfontein Primary School is a new school in Secunda.
This farm school which was initially opened on the Trichardtsfontein farm more than a decade ago, relocated to Secunda’s Ext 22 in June.
Its entry gate is in Heinz Thomas Street, adjacent to the water reservoirs in Ext 22.
The Department of Education erected temporary classrooms, an office block and ablution facilities and the learners are being bussed to and from school daily.
According to Mr Alfred Mahlangu, principal, they currently accommodate 385 learners from Grade R to Grade 7.

Most of these learners come from impoverished communities and many are orphans. The school therefore provides the children with lunch via the department’s feeding scheme.
Financial burdens, such as an exorbitant monthly municipal service bill, are piling up and the school can hardly make ends meet with the grand they receive from the Department of Education.
“However, the kids seem happy to now be part of the Secunda. I am sure they will be even more happy if they can have a sport field and equipment,” said Mr Mahlangu.

The school decided to change their curriculum to incorporate Afrikaans and English.
“We are phasing this in so that the children will be able to feed into the other schools. They need to cope when they go a high school in this area.”
These languages are introduced as from Grade R. The school currently has 10 teachers. Mr Mahlangu hopes the school will expand and also accommodate the children from this community,
He invites parents to enrol their little ones for Grade R and Grade 1 at Trichardtsfontein Primary School.

The school also needs help with a siren and intercom, money to pay the teachers and the services bills, sport attire for netball, soccer and athletics, carports, dolerite, a kitchen, a dining room, a school hall, a library, laboratory, a computer room, a generator, a deep freezer, big steel containers for storage, Grade R outdoors equipment, projectors, laptops, a photocopier and a printer and office furniture.
Anyone who wants to support the school, can contact Mr Mahlangu at 081 247 6007 or send him an email to trifonteinps@outlook.com.
