Thistle Grove residents are without water again, while clean water goes to waste

Municipality fails to respond to questions about reservoir

KINROSS – Residents of Thistle Grove are tired to be without water at least a few times per week.

They did not have any water on Monday, 28 October and although the water supply was back on Tuesday, 29 October, by Thursday, 31 October, the water pressure in was low and the water flow was very slow.

The reservoir in the area was overflowing last week with water streaming down the street.

“How many litres of water is going to waste like that?” asked a resident.

“We pay for our water consumption every month, so why must we sit without water?”

While the reservoir in Thistle Grove seemed to be overflowing, residents in this area are often without water.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Counillor, said, according to her knowledge, a cable was stolen at the pump station about four weeks ago and the municipality cannot repair it, because there is not a proper fence around the pump station.

“The valve is controlled manually and residents must remember, if the reservoir runs empty today, it takes a few hours to fill up again,” said Ms Chamberlain.

“The reservoir must be filled to a certain percentage with water, before the water pipes can be filled again.

“The municipality’s plan now is to install a valve that will control the water levels automatically.” Municipal workers were allegedly installing the valve at the time of going to print.

The Ridge Times asked the communications department of Govan Mbeki Municipality for comment, but they have not responded at the time of going to print.

Dams of water can be seen around the reservoir in Thistle Grove.
