Find yourself at Firestarters Leadership Academy and be prepared for the future

“FLA exposes you to daily mentorship, teaching and ministry and also challenges you in ways that will push you out of your comfort zone into your destiny. The plan and purpose are to see where your strengths are, who you really are as a person, while continually learning to rely on Jesus Christ, who is our security and strength.

SECUNDA – The Firestarter Leadership Academy (FLA) sets people up for success, regardless of their background.

Lighthouse Church, through this initiative, wants to grow and develop young people between the ages of 17 and 26 years.

According to Mr Marco and Ms Caitlin Williams, leaders of FLA, this programme is a safe environment to explore and find out who you are in Christ and what calling God has on your life.

In this proverbial “gap year”, the FLA can help you to discover what direction is the best.

Mr Williams said the FLA starts the year off with a camp where you get to make incredible friends that eventually become your family.

“Nobody has the same past, but we get to enjoy the same journey throughout the year which allows incredible bonds to be formed. When one fails, you have people who love and support you, to help you up again and push you together.”

FLA fast tracks your spiritual walk.

The program is divided into four terms, each term having a separate focus.

The first term kicks off with an initiation camp and also focuses on career guidance and defining your personality.

Ms Williams said a lot of time is invested in working through past hurts and seeing God restore relationships and personal self-esteem.

The second term deals with personal and social skills development.

“There are great opportunities for the team to serve in schools, this encourages the development of communication skills through social interaction. This term sees the student spend time with guidance counsellors and occupational therapists.”

The third term is considered the outreach term where the team will go on outreaches to, amongst others, Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland.

The students are challenged with outreaches, deep Bible studies and realising what God has called them to do.

According to the Lighthouse Church Secunda Senior Pastor Derek Chester-Browne, “This is the best term by far”.

The fourth term concentrates on getting the students ready for the outside world.

For the year, at least, Lighthouse Church Secunda becomes their spiritual home. The FLA team serves extensively in the church and they are trained in media, kids’ ministry, hosting and serving.

As part of the program all the students who live in Trichardt and Secunda are collected and dropped off at home whenever they need to be at the church.
