Eskom maintenance blamed for power cuts in eMba

Some areas were without electricity for over 48 hours

eMBALENHLE – Disgruntled locals are speculating that they will be having a dark Christmas this year – judging by all the electricity problems in the area in the past two weeks.

The residents have lost hope that the Govan Mbeki Municipality will ever be able to fix the electricity crisis in the area, despite the current electricity upgrades in the town.

Most of the area was without power for several days.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality blamed this on damaged breakers at the Extension 7 substation.

The municipality posted on their Facebook page on Wednesday, 20 November, that they have received an urgent notification that Eskom will be carrying out maintenance work on the infrastructure in eMbalenhle.

The following areas were to be affected: Extension 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 18,19, 20, 25 (eMa D), Cross Roads and Mall@eMba.

Residents were urged to treat electricity as alive at all times as there is no guarantee that the electricity will remain off for the whole day.

The next day the residents were complaining that they still did not have electricity.

The municipality posted on Facebook again and said: “Eskom technicians are still hard at work restoring power toMbalenhle after a planned shut down due to maintenance since from yesterday.

“The repairing of the transformer might take long hours due to bad weather.”
