Evicted residents of eNkomeni Village march against Sasol

eMBALENHLE – Evicted residents of eNkomeni Village near Evander marched against Sasol to demand back their land on Tuesday, 26 November.

The disgruntled residents were evicted by a Sasol appointed company on Tuesday, 20 August.

The residents alleged that they had bought the land from Sakhisizwe Communal Property Association members.

They said they had several meetings with Sasol without luck in finding solutions to the problem.

They accused the company of ignoring them and of making empty promises.

Mr Butho Buthelezi, march convener, said Sasol began undermining the community back in 2008 when the servitude agreements were signed.

He said Shondoni Mine is built at Sakhisizwe Farm, but the community is not benefiting anything.

He said there is no skills development and no provisions made for basic needs such water and electricity. Mr Buthelezi claimed the only thing Sasol has done, was to built a bridge in 2016.

“The residents were illegally evicted.”We demand an urgent meeting with Sasol and other stakeholders involved in the matter.” The memorandum was handed over to Sasol management.
