Gert Sibande College hosts digital roadshow in town
Acting principal, Ms Portia Mange, officially opened the event and gave the background of the college during which the college’s vision, history and available courses weer outlined.
Gert Sibande TVET College recently hosted a A21 Digital Guidelines Roadshow at the college’s Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre.
According to a statement issued, the purpose was to advocate Centres of Specialisation (CoS) in the country.
Acting principal, Ms Portia Mange, officially opened the event and gave the background of the college during which the college’s vision, history and available courses were outlined.
“The college is happy about this roadshow as it is going to enhance relationships among apprentices, TVET colleges and employees,” Ms Mange said.
Ms Makhosazane Mngadi, project manager from the British Council, followed with a brief explanation of what the workshop wanted to achieve.
She gave lessons on the responsibilities of employers, apprentices and colleges in making this apprentices’ programme a success.
A video featuring a 22-year-old woman from North-West, who is already a beneficiary, was played.
Mr Nick Joubert, national training manager from the Institute of Plumbing SA (IOPSA), gave a presentation on Centres of Specialisation.
Mr Joubert emphasised the importance of producing artisans in large numbers as South Africa is losing hundreds of artisans to other countries.
Ms Regina Mampye thanked everyone on behalf of the college and echoed Mr Joubert’s sentiments that artisans should remain in South Africa to make the country a better place to live in.
