Blood service urgently needs blood
In South Africa, 3 500 donations are required daily to meet the demand from patients.
The Teksa branch of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), urgently needs blood.
Sr Sanet Kalse, collections manager, said they are currently below the desired level of five days.
According to the SANBS’ head office, blood stock levels have, for the first time in months, dropped so low due to the holiday period.

The SANBS thanked all blood donors for their continued support and said 2019 was a successful year for them.
However, they encouraged people to donate blood today and help them to ensure another year of sufficient blood products so that every patient requiring a life-saving blood transfusion can get it when needed.
Each blood donation can save up to three lives.
“Begin the year on a good note and bring your friends and family to donate blood,” said Sr Kalse.
