Businessman of Standerton dies in shooting incident

Traditional celebrations on Christmas Day, 25 December abruptly came to a halt when Mr Masum Hossain lost his life in a shooting incident at Dieselek in Coligny Street, Standerton.

According to his wife, Carika, the company had experienced extensive theft of batteries, especially over weekends.

The tracker unit on one of the trucks, at the back of the yard, however, sent a ‘discharge battery’ signal that fateful morning.

Mr Hossain went to investigate.

Kasselman Security Services (KSS) was at the scene and found an intruder.

The Standerton Advertiser could only establish that a gun went off and hit Mr Hossain.

The newspaper spoke to both Mr Jannie Kasselman and Mr Jandré Kasselman who said, pending a police investigation, no details can be given.

Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, said on Monday, 6 January that a case of business burglary was opened and a suspect arrested.

The name of the suspect could not be confirmed at the time of going to press.

The 42-year-old Muslim was buried according to custom and leaves behind his wife and eight-month-old baby.
