SECUNDA – The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is in urgent need of blood as they currently do not have the minimum desired level of blood in stock.
The ideal level of blood for SANBS is five days.
Sr Sanet Kalse, collections manager of the Teksa branch of the SANBS in Secunda, said the demands of doctors who work at saving lives, still continues in the new year.
She said due to the loyalty of the SANBS’s regular blood donors and the increasing number of South Africans who began donating blood last year, 2019 was a successful year for SANBS.
“Blood stock levels were adequate throughout the year and we thank all our blood donors for their support,” said Sr Kalse.
“However, recently, for the first time in many months, our blood levels dropped below the ideal level due to the holiday period.
“We encourage people to support us and find time in the new year to donate blood.
“Please help us to ensure another year of sufficient blood products so that every patient requiring a life-saving blood transfusion can receive blood when needed, only you can help.”
One blood donation can save up to three lives.
