eMBALENHLE – The Govan Mbeki municipal offices that were torched in 2017 during a protest, were officially reopened by Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor, on Friday 24 January.
These have been rebuilt and are fully furnished.
The offices will be operational soon and the date will be announced.
Mr Felani Mndebele, municipal manager, said he is happy that the offices are now opened and that it will contribute to service delivery.
He said locals were complaining that they do not always have money to travel to Secunda to pay for their services.
He encourages locals to pay for their services.
Addressing the attendees, most of whom were municipal workers, Ms Ngxonono emphasised the matter of service delivery and the Batho Pele principles.
“We often engage with our people and they always voice their dissatisfaction with the attitudes of our workers in various offices.
“This must come to an end.
“People must get good services.
“We must not forget that they are paying us.”
She urged the community to ensure that the offices are taken care of.
