Museum piece or not? Fire engine arrives in Standerton

She added that R271 000 was paid in December for this ‘very old museum truck’.

Lekwa Municipality has been granted a reprieve since a fire engine arrived in town on 28 January.

According to Ms Sithi Silosini, PR-councillor from the DA, it is the same truck that had mechanical problems in December.

“It only responded to one incident and packed up afterwards,” Ms Silosini said on Facebook.

She added that R271 000 was paid in December for this ‘very old museum truck’.

The Standerton Advertiser sent a WhatsApp-message to Lekwa’s communications manager, Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, on Thursday, 30 January, to enquire about it.

Ms Mtshiselwa replied by saying the truck was procured from Morafe Holdings in Gauteng and she would find out whether it was hired or bought.

Another message on the same day asked clarification on Ms Silosini’s allegation.

No reply was received at the time of going to press.
