Robbers hit house in Secunda while kids are at home

Two young girls and a domestic worker were home when the gang targeted the house. The robbers had apparently threatened to shoot one of the children during the crime.

SECUNDA – Armed robbers knocked a house in Leonard Flemming Street near the Driefontein Centre this morning, 13 February.
According to Capt Gerhard Elmes, Secunda Police spokesman, four men armed with a gun, crowbar and screwdriver broke into the house before noon. Two young girls and a domestic worker were home when the gang targeted the house.
Mr Desigan Chetty (36), the father of the two girls, left for work at about 7.15am. He received a call at noon from the domestic worker alerting him of the robbery in progress.
He rushed home where he found the front gate wide open the gate motor tampered with. The front door was broken and his daughters were inside the house. The robbers had apparently threatened to shoot one of the children during the crime.
Mr Chetty found the domestic worker in the neighbour’s yard being bitten by their dog. She went to the neighbours for help.
Capt Elmes said the robbers stole a television, laptops, and various brands of watches, a camera and a sound bar.
“A witness reported that a white VW Golf with Reg No FBY 033 MP fled the scene,” said Capt Elmes.
The domestic worker was treated for the dog bite. Although no one was injured during the robbery, the family were traumatised. They were tended to by counsellors from the Curamus Victim Support.
The police are investigating a case of house robbery.
